Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde has issued a statement amid reports that he refused to play as a right-back in the Champions League second-round match against Kayrat.
Idman.biz reports that the match held in Almaty ended with Real's 5-0 victory.
"I have read several articles that damage my reputation. I know that I have had some poor performances and I admit it. I am really saddened. People can say what they want about me, but under no circumstances should they say that I have refused to play. I have given everything to this club, I have even played with breaks and injuries and I have never complained.
I have a good relationship with the coach. This allows me to feel confident enough to tell him the position I want to play. But I have always said that I am always ready to play anywhere, in any game. I swear on my pride that I will never give up and will fight to the end, playing where needed," Valverde said.
