Fabio Cannavaro, former defender of "Real Madrid" and the Italian national team, winner of the 2006 Ballon d'Or, has been appointed as the head coach of the Uzbekistan national team. Sport24.az reports that insider Fabrizio Romano shared this information on his social media account.
According to the source, the official contract will be signed in the coming days. Cannavaro's appointment will be announced on October 6.
Cannavaro's last job was at Zagreb "Dinamo". He previously coached Saudi Arabia's "Al-Nassr", several Chinese clubs, as well as the Chinese national team, "Benevento", and "Udinese".
It should be noted that Timur Kapadze has been coaching the Uzbekistan national team since February 2025. Under his leadership, the Uzbekistan team qualified for the World Cup finals for the first time in its history.
