"The superiority of our opponents (France, Iceland, Ukraine) in the qualifying round directly affected the results." This was stated by Elmar Bakhshiyev, the former head coach of "Araz-Nakhchivan", in his statement to Sport24.az.
The experienced specialist assessed the chances of the Azerbaijani national team in the "FIFA Series - 2026" international tournament:
"Our national team has not been able to win for a long time, and it is necessary to get out of this "dark streak." Such games are more important in terms of developing the game system and improving relations between players than the result. The national team has good enough potential. I think this tournament will be useful for us. The selection of players is the responsibility of the coaching staff, and they can make the most correct decision. Unlike a club, the national team has a constantly updated squad, and for this reason, someone being left out will always remain a topic of discussion."
It should be noted that the Azerbaijani national team will face Saint Lucia on March 27 and Sierra Leone on March 30. Both games will be held at the Mehdi Huseynzade Sumgayit City Stadium and will start at 19:00.
