New York City officials are expressing serious concerns about the lack of public restrooms ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Sport24.az reports that this was reported by The Independent newspaper.
The Organizing Committee of New York and New Jersey expects approximately 1.2 million people to visit these states during the tournament, but current statistics show that there is only one public toilet for every 8,500 residents. Legislators note that this issue will create a serious problem during the World Cup.
Last week, the New York City Council proposed a bill requiring the city to develop an official plan to increase the number of toilets in the city before the international event. Council members noted that there are already long lines in popular places like Bryant Park, and the expected influx of football fans will overwhelm the existing system.
It should be noted that the 2026 World Cup will be held in the USA, Mexico and Canada from June 11 to July 19.
