Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter has supported calls to boycott the USA-hosted World Cup 2026, citing the behavior of President Donald Trump and his administration, both domestically and internationally. Sport24.az reports that the former functionary endorsed the views expressed by Mark Pieth, the former head of the Independent Governance Committee of FIFA Reforms, in an interview with the Swiss publication "Der Bund" on the social media platform "X".
In his interview, Pieth said, "Given everything we have discussed, there is only one piece of advice for fans: don't travel to the USA! In any case, it would be better to watch the match on television. Fans should know that if they don't meet the requirements of the US officials, they will be sent back immediately on the next flight," urging fans not to travel to the USA.
Blatter also emphasized that he agreed with Pieth:
"I think Mark Pieth is right to question this World Cup".
It should be noted that the World Cup 2026 will be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.
