49-year-old Michael Ballack enjoyed a memorable career playing for clubs such as Kaiserslautern, Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich and Chelsea. The German player won four Bundesliga titles and one Premier League title.
Lent.az, citing foreign media, reports that Ballack was also successful off the field: he married Simone Lambe (they separated in 2012) and had three children - Luis, Emilio and Jordi. But Michael's life was divided into "before" and "after" after his son Emilio died in August 2021 at the age of 18.
The family was on vacation in Portugal at the time, and after a barbecue, the young man rode around on a quad bike (a light vehicle with four wheels, a motorcycle-type steering wheel and a seat, mainly intended for off-road driving - ed.).
Police later reported that Emilio overturned the car while driving on a rough road, crushing Ballack's son. Paramedics arrived and tried to revive the young man, but unfortunately he was pronounced dead.
Michael Ballack remained silent on the subject for five years, but spoke openly on the "My Story" show on Sky Germany.

"It's difficult. It's difficult. You can't even imagine it. It's impossible to describe in words. Everyone deals with it in their own way. I can't talk about it. I would like to say more, but my feelings overwhelm me.
So it's a process of denial that you try to fight through in your daily life with the help of many things that motivate you - work, family, and other sons.
Of course, you love your children more than anything in the world and want to give them as much stability, warmth and security as possible in life. This is the responsibility you carry as a parent. Such a loss naturally makes everything even more stressful. Of course, you start to be even more afraid. What else could happen?
Life is precious. Living is definitely a privilege. Luck and bad luck also play a role. Fate. Call it what you want, but everything happens by itself. Despite all the talk about fate, I naturally want to deal with it. It gives me renewed strength, this challenge and at the same time knowing that life goes on."
