Arif Asadov's participation in the "Legends Cup" opens new opportunities for Azerbaijan

Arif Asadov's participation in the "Legends Cup", organized with the participation of well-known veteran football players in Russia, may pave the way for other representatives of Azerbaijan as well.

This was stated by the former defender of the Azerbaijani national team in his statement to "Report".

He said he remembered his youth:

"The tournament was held at a high level. I was the first Azerbaijani representative to participate in the competition. It was like a World Championship atmosphere. The fans' support was great, because wherever they looked, they saw star football players. Also, we were constantly communicating with each other in the hotel where we stayed, taking pictures, and having various conversations. Almost all the teams were located in the same place. I enjoyed the tournament very much. I remembered the years when I was a world and European champion as part of the USSR national team, and when I played in the Russian championship. I returned to my country with very good impressions. I think that my performance in this tournament may pave the way for other representatives of Azerbaijan in the future. They may invite someone to this tournament. In this regard, I was able to play the role of a bridge."

The football player, who was a world and European champion as part of the USSR national team, said that they finished the competition in 4th place:

"The Legends Cup" is a traditional tournament, which has been held for almost 15 years. This year, 6 teams were invited and divided into two groups. Russia and Serbia were in our group. World, European and Turkish legends were in the other group. Our first game was against Serbia and the match ended with a score of 6:6. We lost to Russia with a score of 6:8. Russian legends always prepare well for this tournament. They often participate in competitions. This ensures that they are always in good shape. Since Russia defeated Serbia, we became the second in the group due to the goal difference and faced world legends in the next match. We lost in this match as well and finished in 4th place. The Russian legends took the first place. The European team was second and the world legends were third. Serbia took 5th place and Turkey took 6th place."

A. Asadov said that he participated in every game:

"I participated in every game. The matches consisted of two halves of 20 minutes each. Since the sides of the field were closed, the ball did not go out and was always on the field. For this reason, the games were intense. It was always possible to make changes. There were about 10 football players in each squad. Including the goalkeeper, 6 people from each team were fighting on the field."

It should be noted that Arif Asadov is a member of the Asian legends team in the "Legends Cup".
