The Azerbaijani national team should be careful in the first minutes of the away match against the French national team in the qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup.
This was stated to "Report" by the former coach of the national team, Arif Asadov.
The 55-year-old expert wished the team and head coach Aykhan Abbasov success in the next two matches: "Our national team will play two difficult matches. Our first game will be against the French team. What are the expectations here? The main thing is not to be afraid of the opponent. We expect determination, high spirits and a good game from our players."
Asadov said that France is the clear favorite in that meeting: "This is known to everyone. The important thing is not to be afraid of the opponent. We must be more careful, especially in the first minutes. Of course, it would not be right to expect a victory. It is important for the team to show a good game."
The veteran football player, who participated in the France - Azerbaijan (10:0) match in 1995, did not want to express much opinion about that meeting: "30 years have passed since that match. Football is changing, everything is being updated over time. Let's not remember that match now. Let's think positively that our national team will show a successful game and make us happy."
It should be noted that the Azerbaijani national team will face France on October 10 in the qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup. The match will be held at the "Park de Prens" stadium at 22:45 Baku time.
