The Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA) has commented on the recent discussions regarding referee decisions.
Idman.Biz reports with reference to the press service of the organization that the supreme governing body of the country's football carries out its activities in accordance with international standards, especially the principles of UEFA and FIFA.
It was stated that AFFA's main priorities are fair play, transparent governance, equal treatment and maintaining the trust of the football community. It was emphasized that the reforms carried out in the Referees Committee and the Referees Department in recent times also serve to strengthen these principles. It was brought to attention that the appointment, evaluation of referees and VAR procedures are carried out in accordance with international guidelines, and the processes are further improved on an institutional basis.
The statement also reminded that, according to the decision made at the end of last year, each club has the right to officially apply three times during the season to review VAR recordings regarding controversial game episodes. The organization stated that this mechanism serves to increase transparency and answer questions institutionally.
AFFA has stated that in recent days, "Neftchi" PFK has issued protest statements regarding referee decisions in the 2025/2026 season of the Misli Premier League. In order to prevent the circulation of speculative information and attempts to influence public opinion in the current situation, it was emphasized that the Referees Committee is ready to discuss all controversial episodes submitted by the club in a professional, objective and legal framework.
The organization announced that it has invited official representatives of "Neftchi" PFK to AFFA for this purpose, a detailed analysis of the submitted episodes will be carried out and existing questions will be answered.
Finally, AFFA called on all clubs to refrain from unilateral statements, to prefer institutional dialogue instead of emotional rhetoric, and to remain committed to the principles of mutual respect and cooperation in order to preserve a healthy environment in Azerbaijani football.
