The Asian Football Confederation has announced the postponement of the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 matches in the West Region due to the situation in the Middle East. Sport24.az reports that the organization's official website has released information about this.
The West Region includes clubs from Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Iran, Uzbekistan, and Iraq. The matches were scheduled to be held on March 2 and 3 in Abu Dhabi, Doha, and Dubai. It was reported that additional information regarding the matter will be provided.
In the East Region, which includes teams from Japan, South Korea, China, Thailand, Australia, and Malaysia, the matches will take place as planned.
It should be noted that Israel and the US launched a military operation against Iran on February 28. Iran's "Mehr" news agency reported that the country launched retaliatory strikes against US military bases in Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia. As regional countries closed their airspace, most airlines suspended flights.
