The opening ceremony of the final stage of the Azerbaijan Chess Championship among chess players aged 8-18 was held in Ganja. Sport24.az reports that the Azerbaijan Chess Federation has released information about this.
It was reported that at the beginning of the event organized at the Ganja Sports Palace, the dear memory of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev and the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of our lands was commemorated with a minute of silence. Then the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played.
It should be noted that the championship is held in 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 age categories, divided into boys and girls categories. According to the "Criteria for the formation of the Azerbaijani national chess teams and the chess player support program" by age groups, the Azerbaijani champions will be sent to the 2026 world and European championships in the corresponding age group, and the chess players who take second place will be sent to the 2026 European championship in the corresponding age group. Since the world championship format of the 8, 10, 12 age groups has changed, chess players who achieve high results in these age groups will participate in the world cup.
The competition will end on March 30.
