FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich has announced that the FIDE Ethics and Disciplinary Commission will investigate statements made by the 14th World Champion Vladimir Kramnik regarding American Grandmaster Daniel Naroditsky.
According to İdman.Biz, Naroditsky passed away on October 19th.
Speculation has spread on social networks that Kramnik's accusations of cheating against Naroditsky affected the latter's psychological state and contributed to his death.
"Recently, public discussions in the chess world have often crossed unacceptable boundaries, harming not only people's reputations but also their well-being. When this happens, discussions can turn into bullying, harassment, and personal attacks, which is a particularly serious issue in modern conditions.
The chess community has long respected Grandmaster Vladimir Kramnik's achievements, and his contributions to our sport are undeniable. However, the same high standards that accompany great achievements also create a responsibility to adhere to the principles of fairness and respect and to serve as an ambassador for this sport.
Therefore, together with the FIDE Board, I will officially submit all relevant public statements by Grandmaster Vladimir Kramnik, both before and after the tragic death of Grandmaster Daniel Naroditsky, to the FIDE Ethics and Disciplinary Commission for independent review.
At the same time, I affirm that FIDE will take appropriate action in the event of any disrespect, public harassment, or bullying within the chess community. We are all responsible for ensuring that our sport remains a place of integrity, respect, and humanity - values that must always prevail over hostility and division," reads the statement by the FIDE President, published on the organization's social media accounts.
