The closing ceremony of the "Baku Open-2025" International Chess Festival, organized with the support of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, has been held.
According to "Report", the event was attended by Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and head of IDEA Public Union Leyla Aliyeva, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan Anar Alakbarov, Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov, 6th President of FIDE Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, President of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation (ACF) Mahir Mammadov and other officials.
First, a video dedicated to the memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev was shown at the ceremony.
Then Mahir Mammadov spoke and greeted the participants of the event:
"Azerbaijan is known as a chess country in the world. We are proud of the success of our representatives in all age categories. Chess is under the care of the state. I express my deep gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev."
It should be reminded that the prize fund of the festival was 55 thousand US dollars. More than 700 chess players from 16 countries competed in the competition. The Azerbaijan Championship among veteran chess players was also held within the framework of the tournament.
The festival is also part of the "Chess Tour Azerbaijan" project.
