Azerbaijan has returned to the top ten in the ranking of the world's chess nations.
Idman.Biz reports that in the new ranking announced by the International Chess Federation (FIDE), Azerbaijan has risen to 8th place. Our team was in 11th place last month. Currently, our country has 2,622 points.
It should be reminded that the ranking of chess countries is formed based on the average score of 10 leading chess players of each country. When points are equal, the number of grandmasters is taken into account - the country with more players holding the highest chess title has an advantage.
Azerbaijan's return to the top ten of the world ranking is due to Vasif Durarbeyli. The Azerbaijani grandmaster living in the USA was previously removed from the list of active chess players because he had not played rating games for a year, and his results were not taken into account in the ranking, as well as in Azerbaijan's indicators. However, in the last month, Durarbeyli played several games and returned to the list of active players with 2,611 points.
It should be noted that last month Teymur Rajabov could also have received the status of an inactive player for the same reason. He played a mini-match consisting of four rating games, drawing all the matches and maintaining his place in the FIDE ranking.
