Azerbaijani grandmaster Aydın Suleymanli suffered his first defeat in the traditional "Tata Steel Challengers" tournament held in the Dutch city of Wijk aan Zee.
According to Idman.Biz, the Azerbaijani chess player lost to famous Ukrainian grandmaster Vasyl Ivanchuk in the framework of the 11th round games.
Thus, Suleymanli, who was the sole leader in the tournament table until the 11th round, is currently sharing 2nd-3rd places with Ivanchuk. Both chess players have eight points in their assets. The tournament is led by Andy Woodworth from the USA with 8.5 points. In the semi-final before the final round, the Azerbaijani representative will face Frenchman Marc'Andria Maurizzi.
It should be reminded that the winner of the "Challengers" tournament will gain the right to participate in the main competition - "Masters", which will be held in Wijk aan Zee next year.
