Idman.Biz reports that in the eighth round, A. Suleymanli defeated American chess player Carissa Yip. This victory was Aydın's fourth success in the current tournament.
Thus, the Azerbaijani grandmaster, having scored six points, is in third place in the tournament table. He lags behind the leaders, Markandriya Maurizzi from France and Andy Woodruff from the USA, who scored 6.5 points each.
January 26, Monday will be a rest day in the tournament held in Wijk aan Zee. On Tuesday, Suleymanli will face Argentinian Faustino Oro. A total of 13 rounds are planned as part of the festival. The winner of the Challengers tournament will gain the right to compete in the Masters tournament, which will be held in Wijk aan Zee next year and will feature the world's leading chess players.
