Former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman has publicly apologized to British boxer Anthony Joshua for posting a video showing him after a fatal car accident in Nigeria.
Idman.Biz recalls that the incident happened in Nigeria in late December, resulting in the death of two of Joshua's trainers.
"It was such a difficult situation that I had to apologize publicly in a way I've never done before. Because I've never been in a situation where I've had to act like that. But it was necessary. It was necessary because the most important thing for a man is a sense of responsibility when he makes a mistake. Regardless of whether the accident happened or not, you have to take full responsibility, and I had to do that. And I did. I was angry for many reasons.
First of all, I was angry at myself for not watching my entire vlog and seeing what was in it. I was angry because it was my fault. I take full responsibility for everything that is posted on my channel. I was angry that I missed it. Secondly, I was angry because now I have put my Nigerian brother AJ in a difficult situation. People are judging and saying things like, "Why does this look like this?" I was angry to hear and see all of this. Most importantly, I was angry at myself for giving them an excuse to even try to attack him like that. I take full responsibility. I had no choice but to apologize. I feel terrible. I still feel terrible because that's my character and I don't play with that," Usman said on his "Pound4Pound" podcast.
Usman had previously shared footage on his YouTube blog of a conversation with Joshua taken shortly after the tragedy. According to journalist Ariel Helwani, Joshua and his team were unaware that the footage was being filmed and would be made public.
