The World Boxing Championship will start today in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Sarkhan Aliyev (70 kg), who will represent Azerbaijan in the competition, gave an interview to AZERTAC about his preparation for the tournament and his goals.
- The World Boxing Championship is starting in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. How was your preparation for the World Cup?
- Our preparation for the World Championship went well. Last month we had a training camp in Uzbekistan. Our preparation process there was well organized. Then we successfully participated in the Islamic Solidarity Games. We came out of this competition in good shape. We have worked harder on ourselves.
- How do you assess the chances of the Azerbaijani national team?
- The team is in good condition. The team consists of young and experienced individuals. In my opinion, we will achieve a good result as a team.
- You won a bronze medal at the World Championship held in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, in 2021. Do you think you can change the quality of the medal in this competition?
- Yes, I won my first medal among adults in that competition. I think I should win at least a bronze medal. My biggest goal is gold.
- How do you assess your potential rivals in the tournament? Are there any rivals you specifically follow and analyze?
- To be honest, I haven't watched my opponents' matches. I don't like watching the athletes who will fight against me before the fights. We are both human beings. It doesn't matter to me which opponent it is.
- What is your next big goal for your career after the World Championship?
- We don't have a big competition after the World Championship. We participated in many tournaments this year. My goal is to show a positive result in the World Championship and then rest.
