The opening ceremony of the Azerbaijan Boxing Championship among men and women was held.
Idman.Biz reports that the Boxing Federation has released information about this.
It was reported that the event started with a parade of participating teams.
Then the National Anthem was played. At the ceremony, Samir Huseynov, advisor to the president of the Azerbaijan Boxing Federation (ABF), said that great achievements have been made in the country's boxing in recent years: "A new history was written in December last year. 19-year-old Azerbaijani boxer Subhan Mammadov won the world champion title. With this, he became the youngest world champion not only in Azerbaijan but also in the world. It is gratifying that this year in the Azerbaijan Championship we see many strong athletes moving from the youth to the adult age category. For this reason, there will be great competition in the competition. The importance of the championship is that we are already starting selections for the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympic Games. The national team must be formed. I am sure that as a result of our joint efforts, we will delight our people with gold medals in Los Angeles 2028."
S.Huseynov emphasized that serious steps have been taken to strengthen the infrastructure in boxing: "Last year, the Southern Regional Boxing Center was opened. This year, serious work will be done to strengthen the infrastructure in Ganja and Nakhchivan. Among our boxers who have achieved results, there are enough who grew up in the regions as well as in Baku. We are confident that the successful performance of our national teams will continue. Special attention will also be paid to the training of coaches and referees."
The championship supervisor Sid Ali Mokretari (Algeria) thanked the Azerbaijan Boxing Federation for the invitation. He said that they will work confidently to ensure that the competition is held at a high level and fairly.
After the ceremony, the competition was declared open.
It should be noted that 166 boxers from 33 teams representing clubs from various cities and regions of the republic, as well as sports societies, are competing in the championship held at the Boxing Center. The fights are controlled by local referees, as well as foreign referees.
The names of the winners of the championship will be announced on January 28.
