Mike Tyson, the 59-year-old International Boxing Hall of Fame member and former undisputed heavyweight champion, has supported amendments to the "Ali Act" being lobbied by UFC President Dana White.
Idman.Biz reminds that TKO Group, the owner of UFC, is planning to create Zuffa Boxing, which is being promoted as the first closed boxing promotion in history with financial support from Saudi Arabia, with its own rules and champions.
Dana White, who proposes a number of amendments to the "Ali Act", will become the president of Zuffa Boxing, including a minimum cash guarantee and mandatory medical insurance. The final decision on the matter will be made in the US Congress.
"Muhammad Ali has always been my hero, both in and out of the ring. Supporting these changes respects the spirit of the original Ali Act because it closes loopholes that allow some promoters to restore monopolistic control over boxers' careers. The new law restores balance, allowing boxers to choose their own paths while protecting the integrity of the sport. The law does not limit the opportunities of those who are comfortable with the existing system, it simply adds options for boxers who want to choose a different path that is more suitable for their career goals.
The proposed reforms will bring significant benefits to boxers. Setting a minimum payment for each round ensures that every athlete who enters the ring is fairly compensated for the risks to which they expose their body and mind. The mandatory medical insurance requirement is equally important - no fighter should have to choose between paying medical expenses and continuing their career. I have seen too many of my colleagues face this impossible choice," MMA Mania quotes Tyson.
