A UFC lightweight title fight between Islam Makhachev and Ilia Topuria could have taken place at a White House event.
Idman.Biz reports that this was reported on the "Vestnik MMA" Telegram channel.
According to the source, one of the fighters had already signed a contract for the championship fight and was waiting for his opponent to sign. It was not possible to confirm that the other fighter had signed the contract. Later, news came from UFC head Dana White that a big fight had been removed from the White House card.
"To be honest, I thought long and hard about whether to tell you all this, but I decided to be honest with the audience. I think White will announce the card immediately after UFC 326, and hopefully we will see a fight between two double champions there. We have what we have for now. One of them has signed the contract and the other has not, so it is still unofficial, but the UFC wanted to hold this fight at the White House event," wrote the author of the Telegram channel.
There is no official confirmation yet from the UFC or the fighters' representatives. The White House event is scheduled for June 14 local time and will coincide with the 80th birthday of US President Donald Trump and the 250th anniversary of US independence. White had previously promised to reveal the full card on Sunday night during the UFC 326 broadcast.
