Nassourdine Imavov, ranked second in the UFC's middleweight division, has revealed the reason why the fight with the division's current champion, Khamzat Chimaev, has not yet been formalized.
İdman.Biz reports with reference to "MMA Fighting" that the French fighter stated that the champion is injured.
"There is no final news yet, no contract has been signed. UFC wanted to schedule the fight for December, then for February, but Khamzat was injured. We recently spoke with Mick Maynard, and they want this fight to happen. I know my next fight should be for the title," Imavov said.
Khamzat Chimaev announced last November that he would undergo minor foot surgery and planned to return to the octagon after Ramadan. However, recent information suggests that his plans have changed.
It is alleged that Chimaev may abandon his middleweight title and move to the light heavyweight division. He is rumored to face Jiri Prochazka for the vacant championship belt at the UFC 327 tournament in Miami on April 11. However, this information has not yet been officially confirmed.
