Former UFC bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili has explained why he doesn't train with his close friend and compatriot Ilia Topuria. Although Topuria is currently preparing for a unification fight with Justin Gaethje, Dvalishvili has decided not to participate in his training camp.
Idman.Biz reports that Merab emphasized that his compatriot is too tough in training.
In a statement to Ringside, he said that training with Topuria carries a risk of serious injury:
"Of course, I like spending time and training with my brother Ilia. But sparring with him is no longer fun. I don't want to get injured because this kid knocks people out even in training. He doesn't even spare his own brother. I was told that they just "kill" each other in the hall.
Let us remind you that the lightweight title fight between Ilia Topuria and Justin Gaethje will headline the UFC tournament to be held on June 14 in front of the White House. Merab Dvalishvili plans to complete the trilogy with Petr Yan in July or August.
It should be noted that last December, Yan defeated Dvalishvili and took the championship belt back from him.
