Chilean lightweight fighter Ignacio Bahamondes has attracted attention with his sincere statements before the fight with his Azerbaijani opponent Tofiq Musayev.
Idman.Biz reports that the Tofiq Musayev - Ignacio Bahamondes match will take place on March 28 in Seattle as part of the "UFC Fight Night: Adesanya vs Pyfer" tournament.
The most notable moment was Bahamondes' confession about his psychological state in recent months. In an interview with podcaster Shelao, he said that he had a difficult time because UFC did not give him a fight for a long time:
"It was a strange situation. At first I felt angry that UFC didn't give me a fight, then it turned into anxiety and eventually I became depressed. I needed a fight, I wanted to get into the octagon. One day after training, I went to the shower completely exhausted and cried there so that no one would see me."
The Chilean fighter also recalled how he got the chance to return to the octagon. He said that he had his last fight on June 21, 2025 in Baku and lost to Rafael Fiziev by unanimous decision of the judges.
"I said, God, give me a chance, I will be ready at any time. The next day I received a call with a short notice fight offer. I accepted it. Maybe I would have wanted a little more time, but everything has its time," he noted.
In an interview with "The Clinic" publication, Bahamondes also touched upon the fight with Musayev and emphasized the importance of drawing the right conclusions from defeats:
"This sport is very fast. The plan must change in seconds and every detail can affect the outcome."
Speaking about the possible scenario of the fight, the athlete said that sticking to the plan prepared by his team is the main condition:
"We are ready for all options. The plan changed in the fight with Fiziev, but this time we are ready to adapt to everything. To defeat Musayev, I must follow the plan and pay close attention to my team's instructions."
Bahamondes also touched upon the difficulties he had in finding an opponent:
"Matchmaking is very variable. Many planned fights do not take place. I wanted to fight for a long time, but opponents refused. This time a chance was given and I accepted it."
It should be noted that Tofiq Musayev also had his first and so far only fight in the UFC on June 21, 2025 in Baku and lost to Myktybek Orolbay from Kyrgyzstan.
