Brazilian Oscar Schmidt, the player with the most points in the history of Olympic basketball tournaments, has died at the age of 69.
Idman.Biz reports that the basketball player was hospitalized after feeling unwell. He had been battling a brain tumor for 15 years.
The former Brazilian basketball player participated in five consecutive Olympic Games (1980–1996). He is the only basketball player to have surpassed the 1000-point mark in Olympic tournaments.
Oscar Schmidt was inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame in 2010. He also participated in the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics in 2016.
