"Not only our juniors, but also our under-23s and seniors have been winning the European champion title for several years."
Idman.biz reports with reference to Report.az that this was stated by Namig Abdullayev, a member of the Executive Committee of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation, in a statement to journalists.
"It is gratifying that our athletes who win in all age categories raise our flag high and sing the National Anthem in international arenas," said N. Abdullayev.
He emphasized that athletes are always surrounded by attention and care by the Wrestling Federation: "The Federation has created all conditions for U-15 and U-17 freestyle wrestlers in recent years. Training camps have been organized in various regions for international competitions. The achievements are obvious."
N. Abdullayev noted that zonal competitions for 15-year-olds have been held for the last 4 years: "Athletes who are national champions are selected by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to participate in the European Championship. It is in these competitions that future European, world and Olympic champions emerge."
The committee member congratulated the wrestlers who showed high results, wished them success in future competitions and said that he was confident that they would achieve the same results at the world championship.
