Many young people show interest in ancient national sports, but rarely come to training on a regular basis.
This was stated by the head coach of the Azerbaijani zorkhana and wrestling team Khayyam Orujov to Idman.Biz.
According to him, the development of infrastructure specifically for these sports would help increase their popularity. Now he trains with his students in the wrestling hall of the Azerbaijan State Academy of Physical Culture and Sports. Orujov noted that there are no women in these sports yet, but he would like to see them there in the future.
He has been dedicated to national directions for about 20 years, and is an international level coach and judge:
"I came to zorkhana and wrestling thanks to a friend who was interested in it. At that time, these sports were not particularly developed in Azerbaijan. I was attracted by the masculine spirit and values that they cultivated. Therefore, I set a goal for myself - to popularize these areas in the country."
According to him, at that time there were no local specialists in Azerbaijan from whom he could learn. Coaches from South Azerbaijan came to the country for a few days, and he adopted their experience. Now Orujov is the only specialist in this profile in the country and carries out his activities on a public basis. There are many people among his athletes who have achieved serious success.
"I am grateful to the state and the Ministry of Youth and Sports for appreciating my work," he emphasized.
