The Azerbaijani national team, champion of the U15 Greco-Roman wrestling European Championship held in Caorle, Italy, has returned to their homeland.
"Report" reports that a welcoming ceremony was held for the athletes at Heydar Aliyev Airport.
The ceremony was attended by wrestlers' relatives, sports fans, media representatives, and members of the public.
It is worth noting that the Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestling team, which won 1 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals, took first place with 131 points. Armenia (125 points) was second, and Georgia (99 points) was third.
As part of the national team, Omar Salmanov (44 kg) became the European champion by defeating all his opponents. Huseyn Amrahli (38 kg) and Ruslan Nuriyev (75 kg) won silver medals. Khudar Karimli (38 kg), Huseyn Mustafazade (52 kg), and Nadir Hasanov (62 kg) won bronze medals.
The team becomes European champion for the 3rd time. The Greco-Roman wrestling team achieved the same success in 2022 and 2024 as well.
