The quarter-final match of the "Masters" tennis tournament in Rome was stopped due to an unusual reason.
Idman.Biz reports that the match between Spaniard Rafael Hodar and Italian Luciano Darderi could not continue for a while due to the smoke from the pyrotechnics of "Inter" fans. The incident occurred after the Italian Cup final at the "Stadio Olimpico".
The Milan representative defeated "Lazio" 2:0 in the final and won the cup. The smoke rising from the stadium spread to the "Foro Italico" complex, located approximately 500 meters away, and significantly complicated the view on the tennis court.
The match was stopped when Hodar was leading 6:5 in the first set. Due to the smoke, the electronic line determination system also temporarily stopped working. The referees waited for the situation to improve and the game continued after the break.
Darderi eventually defeated Hodar 7:6, 5:7, 6:0 and advanced to the semi-finals. The Italian tennis player will face Casper Ruud in the next stage.
