Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev has suffered one of the most severe and devastating defeats of his career. In the second round of the Monte Carlo "Masters" series tournament, Medvedev, facing Matteo Berrettini, who is ranked 90th in the world, left the court with a crushing (0:6, 0:6) loss.
Idman.Biz reports that the Russian star couldn't win a single game in the match that lasted only 50 minutes. Unable to cope with the tension, Medvedev smashed his racket seven times in a row during the match, rendering it completely unusable. He then threw the broken racket into the trash can near the court, moments that were not missed by the fans' sarcastic applause and the cameras.
Interestingly, this failure comes after Medvedev's successful performance in the first quarter of the season. Daniil won titles in Brisbane and Dubai in the early months of the year, and reached the final in Indian Wells, returning to the top 10 tennis players in the world. However, this result in Monte Carlo went down in history as his first such humiliating defeat in his career.
