British number one Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from the Madrid Open. The 23-year-old tennis player made this decision because she has not fully recovered from the complications of a viral illness that she has been suffering from since February.
Idman.Biz reports with reference to "Sky Sports" that Raducanu will no longer be able to participate in the third consecutive competition after the Miami and Linz tournaments. She last appeared on the court six weeks ago in Indian Wells in a match where she lost to Amanda Anisimova. According to reports, although Emma has already started training, she is not yet ready to compete in a high-level tournament like Madrid.
Raducanu is not the only loss for the organizers of the Madrid Open. Just a few hours before her, world number two Carlos Alcaraz withdrew from the tournament due to a wrist injury, and three-time Madrid champion Novak Djokovic withdrew due to a shoulder injury.
Emma Raducanu is expected to start her clay court season at the Italian Open in early May. Let us remind you that last year she performed successfully in Italy and advanced to the fourth round, where she was defeated by Coco Gauff. The current season is difficult for the British player; although she reached the final in Cluj in February, she later faced illness and successive coach changes.
