Italian tennis player Lucrezia Stefanini faced a shocking incident in the qualifying stage of the "WTA-1000" tournament held in Indian Wells, USA.
"Report" reports that the 27-year-old athlete shared about it on her social media account.
She stated that she received threatening messages from unknown individuals before the match with her opponent Viktoriya Jimenez Kasintseva from Andorra. In a video shared on her social media account, the tennis player stated that she and her family received death threats, and unknown individuals sent her personal number a photo of a pistol, information about her parents' names and place of birth, demanding that she lose the game.
The Italian tennis player, who appeared in a tense psychological state, lost to her opponent in three sets (6:4, 4:6, 4:6).
Stefanini's security was strengthened after she immediately appealed to the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) after the game. WTA officials promised that an investigation would be conducted regarding the incident and that the athlete would be given all kinds of support.
It should be noted that Lucrezia Stefanini is currently ranked 138th in the world.
