Igor Ponomaryov, a member of Sabah's Supervisory Board, commented on the 1:2 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the third round of the UEFA Champions League main stage.
İdman.Biz, citing Championat, reports that the club official stated that the team put up a worthy fight against the German representative.
Ponomaryov specifically expressed regret over the goal conceded at the start of the second half:
"Our players put up a worthy fight against a strong team like Borussia. Unfortunately, we conceded a goal at the start of the second half that could have been prevented. Afterwards, we also had chances to score. Towards the end of the second half, one of our players was left one-on-one with the goalkeeper. We must give Borussia its due; it is a very good team. But our players did not play badly either."
He also emphasized that the experience gained in the Champions League will positively impact the team's future performances:
"Undoubtedly, every game in the Champions League is a great experience for our players. This will give them extra strength both in the domestic league and in the next Eurocup matches. Our players are not far behind the big teams. We have the chance to put up a worthy performance in future matches as well. Our next opponent is Viking. In Baku, we will host Barcelona."
