Roman Repilov, a member of the Russian national luge team and a three-time world champion, has been taken into custody as part of a criminal case.
Idman.Biz reports that the Krasnoyarsk Central District Court has sent Repilov and Alexander Peretyagin, a silver medalist at the European Championships, to a pre-trial detention center for one month.
They are accused of embezzling approximately 11 million rubles (approximately 231,000 AZN) intended for inventory to be purchased for the sports school.
According to the investigation, a contract was signed with the sports school in May 2025 to purchase new equipment. However, the parties falsified the documents and presented inventory that had been previously used and did not meet the contract terms.
Two other individuals in the case – the former director of the sports school and a coach – have already confessed their guilt.
The 29-year-old Repilov is one of the most decorated Russian athletes in luge: he is a three-time world champion, a two-time World Cup winner, and a multiple European medalist.
The 33-year-old Peretyagin won a silver medal at the 2015 European Championships and currently works as an inventory preparation specialist for the Russian national teams.
It should be noted that several criminal cases have been opened in Russia this year related to financial machinations in various sports structures.
