In recent years, students' motivation and attitude towards physiotherapy have changed in a positive direction.
This was stated to Idman.Biz by Roman Yaqoda, Executive Director of the Austrian "Complex Core+" organization, and curator of the Azerbaijan Sports Academy (ASA) physiotherapy education program. The presentation of his book "From Basics to Details" was held today at the Baku Book Center.
"Students now understand that there are great opportunities for physiotherapists to help people," said Yaqoda.
He considers this to be one of the main achievements of his activity in Azerbaijan.
The specialist noted that he has been working in Azerbaijan for about five to six years:
"In the initial stage, I worked with AFFA referees. Then I contacted ASA regarding the organization of courses, and the cooperation became more and more intensive. They realized that we can provide real support for education in the field of rehabilitation. Currently, my company also supports the Azerbaijani national judo team, and we are trying to help other federations and organizations."
Yaqoda emphasized that the development of physiotherapy and rehabilitation is observed in Azerbaijan: "When I first came to Azerbaijan, this field still operated according to the old model that existed in Europe. Rehabilitation was more often perceived as part of medical practice. However, in Europe, physiotherapy is an independent and complex education system. My goal was not only to implement the right physiotherapy education, but also to make a big leap to modern, active physiotherapy without repeating the decades of development that Europe has gone through."
According to him, there is progress, but the potential is greater and this can be realized with more intensive cooperation: "We can come more often during the year and really improve the quality level."
The specialist added that his company previously operated mainly in cycling and badminton, but now the main focus in Azerbaijan is on judo. They also participated in the preparation of athletes for the Paris-2024 Summer Olympic Games.
Yaqoda said that he has been teaching in Germany for more than 15 years:
"I am not a specialist in all sports. But the reason why we are constantly invited to teach is that we explain to Olympic coaches at a basic level how the body should be prepared for a particular sport. Many coaches have a narrow point of view. We show the big picture: for example, why can't a high jumper show high results? The problem may not be in the technique, but in the mobility of the spine and hip joints. This is where we help. There is great interest and positive results in this education in Europe."
He also announced that negotiations are currently being held with the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation:
"We are trying to attract professional physiotherapists to Azerbaijan. The Federation has received a request for a good sports physiotherapist. Sometimes I recommend specialists directly myself. If the process is carried out through me, I am sure of their professionalism."
