Norway's main hockey goalkeeper, Henrik Haukeland, will be left out of the national team after signing a contract with a Russian club.
Sport.Biz reports that the 30-year-old goalkeeper has signed a two-year contract with Traktor, a club from Russia's Chelyabinsk region. Following this transfer, Norway's national team manager, Patrik Toresen, announced that Haukeland will not be invited to the national team, explaining the decision by the goalkeeper's "connection to Russian hockey".
Haukeland was one of the key figures in Norway's historic success. The team won its first bronze medal at the 2026 World Championship, and the goalkeeper was named the best player of the tournament. However, the transfer has put his future in the national team in question, and Norway has taken a tough stance on the matter.
