A tragedy in the Maldives has resulted in the deaths of five Italian divers and a military diver who was trying to rescue them.
İdman.Biz reports that the incident occurred in an underwater cave system near the Vaavu Atoll, at a depth of approximately 50-60 meters. The Italian divers wanted to explore the cave and the underwater halls connected by narrow passages.
It is reported that the deceased were experienced divers and had the necessary certifications. However, the exact cause of the incident has not yet been determined. Maldivian officials are investigating whether the divers descended deeper than allowed.
During the search and rescue operation, Mohamed Mahudhi, a military diver of the Maldivian army, also lost his life. It is reported that he died of decompression sickness during the operation to recover the bodies.

Following the incident, an international diving team was formed. The group includes technical divers from Finland, specialists from "Divers Alert Network Europe", local coast guard and police officers. They conducted test dives to assess the structure of the cave.
According to the latest information, two of the bodies found in the cave have been recovered. Previously, the body of one diver was found outside the cave. It is planned to continue the operation in stages to recover the bodies of the remaining two people.
