Today marks the 103rd anniversary of the birth of Heydar Aliyev, the National Leader of Azerbaijan.
İdman.Biz reminds that Heydar Alirza oglu Aliyev was born on May 10, 1923, in the city of Nakhchivan.
Starting from the Soviet era, the Great Leader turned the development of sports and youth policy into one of the main directions of state policy. During this period, hundreds of sports facilities, educational and youth centers were established in the country.
In 1993, Heydar Aliyev, who returned to political power at the request of the people, was elected President of independent Azerbaijan and led the country until 2003. During this period, he continued the sports and youth policy, paying special attention to its further strengthening. In 1994, the Ministry of Youth and Sports was established by the decree of Heydar Aliyev. In 1997, by his decree, February 2 was declared the Day of Azerbaijani Youth, which was the first such initiative in the CIS.
During the leadership of Heydar Aliyev, the development of sports became one of the priority directions of state policy, the construction of Olympic complexes began in the regions, and an important basis was created for holding international competitions.
The Great Leader was also awarded the "Dignity" award of the National Olympic Committees Association and the "Golden Necklace" distinction of the European Wrestling Federation.
Today, Azerbaijan's successes in the international sports arena and hosting prestigious competitions are assessed as a continuation of the sports policy defined by Heydar Aliyev.
