A major cycling race has returned to Azerbaijan. Sport24.az reports that this was stated by the Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov in a statement to journalists.
He shared his thoughts on the "Baku-Khankendi" Azerbaijan cycling race, which ended today:
"This is very pleasing for us. Many large-scale competitions are held in our capital. Because Baku has been chosen as the sports capital of the world. The World Judo and Sumo Championships, the European Volleyball Championship games and international tournaments in other sports, and World Cups will also take place. International cycling races have been organized in Azerbaijan before. It has returned to our country again. It is also gratifying that it is in our native Karabakh. These are special feelings. Local and young athletes have also joined. I believe that they will also have their say in the next stages. I thank the Azerbaijan Cycling Federation. Organizing such competitions is not easy. The weather conditions must also be taken into account".
F. Gayibov emphasized that the federation has done a great job in terms of organization:
"The route covered more than 20 districts. There was a long distance. A lot of work stands behind this organization. The head of state has special instructions to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Olympic Committee. International tournaments are held in various regions, in the liberated territories. I congratulate both sports fans and residents of Khankendi".
