Elmira Aslanova, an Azerbaijani mountaineer who conquered Everest, has achieved two more significant milestones this year as part of the "Seven Summits" project. Initially, she climbed Mount Jaya (4884 m), located on the island of New Guinea in Indonesia, and a few days ago, she reached Vinson Peak (4892 m), the highest point in Antarctica.
Idman.Biz reports that the "Seven Summits" is a famous mountaineering program that brings together the highest mountains of each continent of the Earth. The project, which has been implemented since 1981, has great popularity worldwide. More than 40,000 people have already participated in this difficult marathon, and about 600 of them have managed to conquer all the peaks. Elmira Aslanova is also among these participants.
Aslanova's "Seven Summits" Road Map
Elmira Aslanova's first appearance on the list was in 2021 on Mount Kilimanjaro (5895 m), the highest point in Africa. In 2023, the athlete experienced a complete turning point: first, Aconcagua (6962 m), the highest peak in South America, and then Everest (8848 m), the roof of the world, were conquered.
With this, Aslanova went down in history as the first Azerbaijani woman to climb Everest. This success is not only a sporting result, but also an example of strength, will, endurance and psychological stability.
One of the little-known facts is that the road to Aconcagua and Everest started with her trip to Chile. Aslanova climbed San Francisco Peak (6018 m) and then Oxos del Salado (6893 m) in the Atacama Desert, one of the most extreme places in the world, for a month in a row.
Next Stage of the Project
Jaya and Vinson peaks are also included in the "Seven Summits" list. Thus, Aslanova has two main goals ahead:
Denali (6194 m) - the highest point in North America, located in Alaska. The mountaineer announced this plan in May.
European peak - Elbrus (5642 m) or Mont Blanc. The choice depends on the geographical acceptance of the Europe-Asia border.
Since Mount Kosciuszko (2228 m), the highest peak in Australia, has already been conquered by Aslanova, the main goal to complete the project is Denali and the selected peak of Europe.
It should be noted that there are several different lists of "Seven Summits". There are different approaches, such as choosing Elbrus or Mont Blanc as the peak of Europe, as well as including Puncak Jaya or Kosciuszko according to the borders of the Australian continent. However, the general basic list rarely changes.
Thus, Elmira Aslanova is only two peaks away from reaching her goal, and the mountaineer is very close to completing the project in the coming years.
