The Executive Committee of the Azerbaijan Cycling Federation (AzVİF) discussed the preparation for the "Baku-Khankendi" race and the work done at its 4th meeting.
İdman.Biz reports with reference to the federation that the president of the federation, Zaur Akhundov, who opened the event with an introductory speech, introduced the participants to the agenda of the meeting.
The federation president said that the preparation works for the "Baku-Khankendi" Azerbaijan Cycling Race, which will be held on May 10-14, have entered a decisive stage, and gave the floor to Sahib Alakbarov, the chairman of the Organizing Committee of the race, the 1st vice-president of the federation, for detailed information on the work done so far.
Sahib Alakbarov said that 25 teams have confirmed their participation in the "Baku-Khankendi" Azerbaijan Cycling Race. Among them are 1 World Tour, 7 Pro-continental, 16 continental and the Azerbaijan national team. In addition, an official website containing all the information about the cycling race has been prepared and made available to viewers.
As part of the preparation, the level of preparation of the infrastructure along the routes was re-examined by the technical director of the race, Roland Hofer, and the security manager, Andre Neumann, together with local experts on February 18-24 of this year. Sahib Alakbarov emphasized the importance of the "Baku-Khankendi" Azerbaijan Cycling Race, which will be broadcast live on Eurosport channel, in terms of conveying to the world community the tourism and sports potential of our country, the experience gained in the organization of international sports events, and the large-scale restoration and development processes carried out in the liberated territories.
The executive vice-president of the Federation, Fikret Huseynov, provided information about the work done and the events held during the period since the last meeting of the Executive Committee. He stated that cycling sections have been opened and are actively operating in 15 regions of the republic in cooperation with the Ministry of Science and Education and the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Sports Organizations Association. With the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, bicycles were presented to students of universities located in Lankaran, Ganja and Mingachevir cities, as well as to children of martyrs and veterans in Ganja city, and the process will continue. In addition, the meeting participants were informed about the work to be done and the events to be held in March.
Other issues related to the activities of the federation were also discussed at the meeting and relevant decisions were made.
