The European Judo Championship is being held in Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro.
QOL.az reports that two more Azerbaijani judokas started the competition today.
Rashid Mammadaliyev (73) faced Benjamin Levi (Great Britain) in the 1/16 final and defeated his opponent. He was also stronger than Otari Kvantidze (Portugal). Mammadliyarov defeated Joan-Benjamin Gaban (France) in the 1/4 final and advanced to the semi-final. He faced Danil Lavrentev (IJF) in this stage and lost by ippon.
Since his opponent won the next match, Mammadaliyev fought with Daniel Zegeedi (Hungary) for the bronze medal. Our athlete won and doubled the number of Azerbaijani judokas who won medals in the continental championship.
Fidan Alizade (57 kilograms), who joined the fight today, defeated Anastasiya Sokiryanskaya (Latvia) in the 1/16 final. She lost to Benta Ndiaye (Switzerland) in the 1/8 final and said goodbye to the tournament.
It should be noted that five of our athletes competed in the tournament yesterday. Only Ahmad Yusifov (60 kg) managed to win a bronze medal.
In addition, the Azerbaijani national team is competing in the European Championship both with individual athletes and in teams. Our country is represented by 15 judokas in 12 weight categories, including 9 men and 6 women. The team will also compete in the mixed team competition.
