"Our team has been successful in Kazakhstan and various international competitions before. We are pleased to participate here."
Idman.Biz reports that these words were said by Kazakh cyclist Aleksandr Vinokurov, the champion of the 2012 London Olympics, in his statement to journalists about the "Baku-Khankendi" international cycling tour.
The 52-year-old athlete praised the organization. The veteran cyclist, who currently works as an official of the "Astana" team, said that he was satisfied with the quality of the track and the security measures.
Vinokurov also commented on the victory of his team member Yevgeny Fedorov in the second stage. He noted that the result was as expected:
"Our team has been successful in Kazakhstan and various international competitions before. We are pleased to participate here. Such competitions keep the traditions of cycling alive. We also try to represent the form of our team properly."
Aleksandr Vinokurov especially appreciated the interest of children in cycling:
"It is very important that children standing at the finish line watch the race with interest. Maybe they will want to get involved in this sport tomorrow. We also started like that once. There are both great ups and downs and very beautiful scenery. I thank the organizers again. Hospitality is really at a high level."
It should be noted that the winner of the second stage of the cycling tour held today on the Baku-Ismayilli route was Kazakh Yevgeny Fedorov. The winner of the first stage of the Baku-Sumgayit race held yesterday was Belarusian member of the Chinese "Li-Ning Star" team, Alexey Shnirko.
It should be reminded that 24 teams representing 20 countries of the world participate in the UCI 2.1 category competition of the International Cycling Union (UCI). The prize fund of the five-stage tournament is more than 50 thousand euros. The competition will end on May 14. The final stage of the tournament will be held in Khankendi.
