New details have emerged in the effort to identify the body of an unknown man found in the Bosphorus Strait in Turkey. Speculation has intensified regarding Nikolay Svechnikov, who went missing five months ago during an intercontinental swimming race in the strait.
İdman.Biz reports that Alena Karaman, a close relative of the swimmer, gave a statement at the police station in Arnavutköy, Turkey, and submitted photos of the clothing Nikolay was wearing on the day of the race. According to her, the wetsuit on the found body is almost identical to the one Svechnikov was wearing.
Karaman stated that she is 99 percent sure that the found body belongs to Nikolay. According to her, the wetsuit's black color, pink trim, and body structure are a perfect match. However, she emphasized that she cannot be 100 percent certain without the results of the DNA test.
According to reports, the body of the unknown man was discovered on the Kuruçeşme coast of the Bosphorus, near the finish line of the intercontinental swimming marathon. Local authorities suspected from the outset that the body could belong to Nikolay Svechnikov and therefore invited his relatives for identification.
It is noted that Alena Karaman was not allowed to participate directly in the identification process because she is not a first-degree relative. She was only presented with photos, and based on those images, she identified the swimming costume. It has also been confirmed that a DNA examination will be carried out in connection with the incident.
