Six Azerbaijani judokas have made it into the top five of the updated world ranking.
According to Idman.Biz, the International Judo Federation (IJF) has released the world ranking as of May 4.
Balabay Aghayev (3658 points), competing in the 60 kg weight category, dropped from first to fourth place in the world ranking, maintaining his place in the top five. Ruslan Pashayev (3593 points) in the 66 kg weight category retained his fifth place. Olympic champion Hidayat Heydarov (4046 points) completes the top five in the 73 kg weight category.
Zelim Tckaev (3562 points), competing in the 81 kg weight category, dropped one place to fifth. Another Olympic champion, Zelim Kotsoiev (100 kg, 5120 points), maintains his position in second place. In the super heavyweight category, Ushangi Kokauri (3682 points) moved up two places to complete the top five.
Only in the 90 kg weight category was an Azerbaijani representative unable to break into the top five - Murad Fatiyev (2656 points) is in ninth place.
It should be reminded that the leading athletes of Azerbaijani judo last competed at the European Championships held in Tbilisi on April 16-19, winning four medals. Hidayat Heydarov (73 kg) won a silver medal, while Ahmad Yusifov (60 kg), Ruslan Pashayev (66 kg) and Zelim Tckaev (81 kg) won bronze medals.
