Elshad Guliyev: "If the approach to futsal changes, it is possible to create a good national team"

"To be honest, we weren't thinking much about the championship. We were more focused on getting into the prize-winning ranks. Because our student futsal team has been participating in competitions for years."

The head coach of our team, which won the European Universities Futsal Championship among students last month, spoke about this success. In addition, he talked about the state of our futsal championship: "Our best result was 5th under my leadership. That was last year. We had never achieved such a good result before. It was very difficult. We knew it would be like this. But the kids coped with it. I believe that we have children with even better potential. We stayed in Zagreb together with other teams. We met with coaches, we had good relations. There were also coaches we knew, with whom we talked, we had conversations. They asked about our becoming the world mini-football champion."

Footballers with potential are growing up in Azerbaijan, and there are also futsal players. True, there are not many, but even if there are few, there are good kids. They proved in Zagreb how to play against strong teams. In fact, the approach to futsal must change. If the approach to futsal changes, it is possible to create a good national team in 2-3 years. Because we have young people with that potential. You just need to work. It is also possible to further strengthen our championship. As long as our national championship continues at this level, it is not worth talking about the success of the national team. It's not something you can get."

The head coach of "Zira" and our national team in mini-football also spoke about their chances in the Champions League: "The Champions League will start on September 7. 3 teams will represent our country. Because "Birbasha Baku" won the Champions League last year. According to the rating, "Aznur" and "Zira" will also play. Very strong teams took part in the tournament. I believe that the Azerbaijani teams will play well and achieve good results. Because "Birbasha Baku" is also very strong. The main squad of the national team is there, "Aznur" is also strong. "Zira" also has a chance to win the championship. We can bring the cup back to Azerbaijan. We have many chances. But of course, there are strong clubs from countries such as Romania, England, Montenegro, Slovakia, and Hungary in the tournament. I hope everything will be fine."
