Max Verstappen, the Dutch driver for the "Red Bull" team, commented on his success in the qualifying session of the Italian Grand Prix held in Monza.
İdman.biz reports that the four-time world champion, who won pole position, also completed the lap with the highest average speed in Formula 1 history.
"New asphalt, different curbs, so the track was faster. I think you could drive even faster with the 2020 "Mercedes" - especially if you put me behind the wheel," Verstappen said.
Verstappen's average speed was 264.682 km/h. The previous record was also set at the Italian Grand Prix by seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, then a "Mercedes" driver. He completed the qualifying lap with an average speed of 264.362 km/h.
