The government of the Republic of South Africa (RSA) has supported the proposal of the Ministry of Sports, Arts and Culture to host the Formula 1 Grand Prix.
"Report" reports with reference to local media that this was announced by Minister Kumbudzo Ntshaveni.
"South Africa will seek the right to host the Formula 1 Grand Prix in 2027 at the Kyalami track. The bid is fully supported by the South African private sector and, if successful, will contribute to job creation and economic development," he said at a briefing after a Cabinet meeting.
Ntshaveni noted that South Africa's proposal includes a guarantee to host the Grand Prix for three years starting in 2027.
It should be noted that in June, the International Automobile Federation approved the plan to upgrade the Kyalami track to Grade 1 status, which allows the Grand Prix to be held there. Work on the track is expected to be fully completed next year.
