"Red Bull" driver Max Verstappen admitted that the qualifying session at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix was one of the most difficult for him.
According to Idman.biz, Verstappen said these words at the press conference after the tour.
"It was a very long qualifying session with a lot of red flags. It was difficult to put a lap together; either the tires weren't ready or the session was interrupted. It was especially difficult when it started to rain at the end," the "Red Bull" driver said.
Despite the difficulties, Verstappen won the qualifying stage in Baku for the first time in his career. This is his sixth pole of the season and 46th of his career. "I gave it my all in the last lap, even on tires different from what we had planned. We were good in the first practice and continued to improve. The final was chaotic for everyone, but I am satisfied with the result," he said.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda finished the tour in sixth place, which is his best result for "Red Bull".
There is a main race ahead, and Verstappen approaches it with cautious optimism: "We need to get a good start, manage our pace and tire wear. We'll see how things develop."
