The Aston Martin team has officially confirmed a driver change for the first free practice (FP1) of the Japanese Grand Prix. Reserve driver Jak Crawford will take the wheel in place of Fernando Alonso at Suzuka.
Idman.Biz reports, citing RacingNews365, that this move is part of the team's mandatory quota for young drivers. The decision coincides with Aston Martin's difficult start to the season and their struggle to get the AMR26 car on track.
20-year-old Jak Crawford, the team's third driver, has no real experience at the Suzuka track, but has been working actively in the simulator and has done a great job. He has previously participated in two FP1 sessions and has covered more than 3000 kilometers with Aston Martin cars. The Japanese Grand Prix will be the young driver's third FP1 test in six months.
